So I decided I’m going on a road trip Monday. 15 hours to Ohio to meet a friend I’ve known only online for 8 years.
As for the trip, what do you guys have for advice? If I need to stop for the night where or how do you suggest I do it?

what part of Ohio?
15 hours is definately dooable in one day if you get an early start, my advice would be to start driving early in the morning when it is still dark out and the roads are quiet so you wont be driving in the dark for as long at the end of the day when you will be more tired. listen to music, drink coffee and try not to hit a deer.
have fun and good luck!
Don’t do that, Brian. Drinking water will keep you more alert than coffee or energy drinks, because it keeps you refreshed, and there’s no crash. Take a stop about every 2 hours (or if you start losing it), get out and walk around for about five minutes. It’ll add a little bit of total travel time, but it’ll keep you awake (and alive).
Good luck.
thats it
and if you are felling that you need to sleep take a stop and sleep!
dont go ahead if you cant stay waked
God only knows, if you drove in a straight line for that long around here you’d end up in the sea sooner or later.
The astronauts wear Depends on long drives.
monkeyman is right about drinking water to keep you alert, i avoid coffee in the morning and during the day but at night sometimes you need that little bit extra. his advice on taking some breaks for a walkabout is even more effective, i like to do a couple laps around the truck if i am starting to feel drowsey. also avoid fatty/greasy foods and have fruit with you to eat on the way.
bon voyage!
MA to OH can easily be done in a day. drinking lots of water is key to staying awake.
An early start is good, when I do drives like that (I usually do 5 or 6 a year that long) I usually start between 6 and 7 in the morning, after driving an hour or so I stop and have a good breakfast (not fast food) and a cup of coffee (or sometimes 2). From there on in, drink nothing but water for the rest of the day.
I don’t tend to get tired from driving so I usually only stop every 5 hours or so, which so happens to be when I usually need to stop for fuel. Even after driving 5 hours I don’t feel like I need a break; my experience driving long distances probably helps that. I know people who have to stop after every 2 hours though or they’ll fall asleep. You’re better off if you take a break before you get tired. 15 minutes does wonders.
I drove from Lethbridge, AB to Halifax, NS (mostly through the US) in about 4 days, and could have done it in a little less if it weren’t for a long stop in Saskatechewan to visit a friend. My overnights along the way were at a rest stop near Fergus Falls, MN, the next one in Buffalo, NY, and the last one in St. John, NB (back in Canada). I’ll leave it to you to look at a map and figure out how far I went in between overnights to see what can be done in one shot of driving.
Yeah coffee is a diaretic, youll be stopping to piss all the time.
and wooo I finally get to meet you!
Oh man I hate long road trips so much…take music I guess. That’s what I’d do.
yay for road trips
once a year i go down south to go skiing.
its a bus with like 50 kids, and 23 and a half hours worth of fun
non stop all the way !
except for the odd food and toilet break.
So I’ve chickened out and I’m taking a bus. It was too short notice to drive, especially alone. I have no clue of any routes and I would be staying two days and leaving. This summer though, a road trip is definitely in store. Anyone out there want to go for a uni trip?
Well if you’re goin on a road trip, head on down to Dallas while you’re at it.
maybe if dan starts shooting for another movie you could hook up with him, and travel around meeting the world’s best unicyclists.
And apparently have cars with a 1000 mile range.
Harper wears Depends all the time
chickening out? come on. I made my trip across the continent with less than a week’s notice.
Energy drinks that taste nasty like…Rockstar or Monster really do the trick when you are really tired. I did a 10 hour drive (b/c of traffic) from NYC to Virginia Tech one time. I left at 2am with no sleep from NYC and had to be at my class at 12:30pm because of a quiz. Good times. Get out of the car every now and then and take a 5 minute walk as well, that really helps me.
Edit: I didn’t see that you were taking a bus now.
Brian just left but we had fun and I even got to try and unicycle haha.
