100 km... One Weekend... 39.4 km/h

Training has started for our unicycle ride across Minnesota. This last weekend I
rode a total of 100 km (60 miles) on my Coker ‘the BIG one’ unicycle. I rode 50
km (~30 mi) on Saturday and another 50 km (~30 mi) on Sunday with others going
on the MN ride.

Just when I didn’t think I could go any faster on the Coker, I got a new maximum
speed on Sunday’s ride. A cruisin’ 39.4 km/h (24.5 MPH). Not much faster than my
old record, but it’s really fast! I didn’t believe that I actually went that
fast when I looked at it. It was down a slight incline and again, guess who was
ahead of me… KATO! (he maxed at 18.6 MPH this time). At first I was a little
bit in front of everyone else going at a slow pace so that I didn’t get too far
in front. Then Kato goes cruisin’ past me going downhill and I decide to catch
up and keep pace with him. I didn’t fall at all during the whole ride, but that
would be the absolute worst time to fall.

Now if I could only maintain a fast speed. For all of my rides I’ve had an
average speed ranging from 16-19 km/h (10-12 MPH). Since May 1st I have
ridden over 200 km (125 miles) and it’s all documented on the web. Check it
out at <http://www.gilby.com/unicycling/log.html> and please let me know what
you think.
