So, i’ve been messing around with my Qu-Ax profi 20" for a couple months now. Not doing that great but i can manage to do 100 foot rides regularly. My turning is rather bad and wobbly but i know that much of that is due to lack of practice.
Long story short, i am about to take the leap and go for uni #2. I have debated amongst myself for some time (read the 24 vs 26 threads over and over again) and decided to go the 26" way (after having decided to go the 24", and then the 26", and over and over again…).
I will be using it for street/pavement/small drops/steps etc, and ofcourse muni (mostly XC stuff, nothing too extreme).
I am between the Nimbus and the Qu-Ax Muni. My heart is probably leaning towards the Nimbus (i have read only good reviews on it) but the Qu-Ax is cheaper (i’ll save around 70 euros that way) and am wondering if the Nimbus is really worth the extra price tag. Maybe 70 euros is not a fortune but still that means the Qu-Ax is almost 20% cheaper, which is not bad.
Thing is, i haven’t found any real reviews for the Qu-Ax. Anyone want to share their 2 cents???
I can tell only about the Qu-ax. For medium-light muni the Qu-ax will be fine, but for something more extreme only the Qu-ax Series (awesome Alu frame!) .
Good choice (I mean going to the 26" way). I have a 24" qu-ax cross (after cracked frame now with Nimbus muni frame) and I will buy a bigger wheel because 24" is just too small and slow for me now - probably Nimbus Muni 26". I think both of these 26" are good (and I really like that yellow qu-ax rim) and if I could save 70 euros, I would buy qu-ax. But all I can see are these prices http://www.einradladen.com/shop/index.php?cat=c257_559mm--26-Inch-.html so I choose cheaper Nimbus Muni…
Thanks for the reply. I assume for something more extreme you are referring to the QX series from Qu-Ax right? However apart from the alu frame and different pedals they seem to be quite the same.
From what i understand (could be wrong offcourse), the frame is unlikely to brake (i am aware of the post above about a broken Qu-Ax cross frame - how did that happen???), most pressure goes to the hub right? Hubs are the same in the Qu-Ax muni and the QX series muni. The yellow line.
Last thing i have noticed and would appreciate any feedback. The QX series has a 36 spoke rim, same as the Nimbus, while the Qu-Ax standard Muni has48 spokes. What’s up with that? No big difference? Maybe for muni 36 is better??

…I assume for something more extreme you are referring to the QX series from Qu-Ax right? Yes!
However apart from the alu frame and different pedals they seem to be quite the same. True!

Last thing i have noticed and would appreciate any feedback. The QX series has a 36 spoke rim, same as the Nimbus, while the Qu-Ax standard Muni has48 spokes. Check again it’s probably a mistake (are you looking at the german UDC site?), the Qu-ax series has 48 spoke rim (and 48 hole hub…;)).
What’s up with that? No big difference? Maybe for muni 36 is better?? 48 holes are for stronger wheel, but I think you’ll see it only on Qu-ax Munis…
One more thing about the Qu-ax rim. The braking surface is painted, and if you intend to add brakes in the future, you’ll have to do few sanding hours in order to get effective and quiet stopping
Noted about the brakes thing. I will put brakes on it some time later on, but as i said, for the same price i’ll probably go for the Nimbus (unless someone convinces me otherwise) probably because there are many owners on here and i haven’t read a bad comment about it, while it seems that few own the Qu-Ax to have a large enough sample group and even fewer have tried both??? However, the Qu-Ax looks better for sure.
This is what happened - http://uniflycross.blogspot.com/2011/09/dokonano-jest.html . I just tried some easy flat stuff -> it caused bigger strain to frame (only 1 year old) and it broked:( But warranty was accepted and I got a new frame which I swapped for a Nimbus frame.
Yeah, it’s weird. And I’m only 68 kg heavy, so no big pressure to the frame.
You’re welcome. Did you order black one (that’s my choice)? Post some pictures then to I know what I’ll get in (probably) summer:) Thanks
