i follow this thread from the beginning, i was just afraid the idea gets lost in time
i ´ve no patience sorry:o
@nurse ben:
i wanna have a triton frame. 26"x 4" and perhaps 20" and 36"
what sence does it make to test “custom” frames
there is a sence in testing for a serie or do you test each custom freme
then i´d like to be also a “tester”
It’s more a test for the frame builder, he has to decide if it’s worth the trouble, also how much he can charge and still sell them.
As far as I know, he’ll build whatever you want, so a 26 x 4 is possible.
The real issue is whether people will really pay that much more for a Ti frame when an equivallent frame can be purchased for less, i.e. in aluminum or steel (KH, Surly).
Triton’s haven’t been produced for a year now. In 2008 I worked for an investment bank, then I was writing my master’s degree thesis at uni. I was f*cking around all summer, spending most of time at the seaside and travelling by car and camping with my friends and GF. Now I have some free time and the will to work I tried searching for work but it appears that I will be more effective at doing something that I LOVE. When I entered the offices, first thing I thought of was escaping
So…Triton. YES! TRITON FOR THE F*CK’S SAKE! HAHAAHA!
I spoke to Sponge the other day and then visited the factory. They are ready to start. Once we have a number of orders, a new unicycle frame jig will be built. That will solve the problems that had appeared before.
Apart from custom made frame of any size I am planning to lend some money and build a number of standard frames with popular geometry (like 20" and 36"s). So that you don’t have to wait one or two months to get the frame. The delivery will take a week. That’s it.
I can’t tell you the prices yet. With the crisis booming everything is cheaper. But not titanium in Russia
If you still have the 29" Geometry/Design for my frame…seriously, it’s not just a nice frame, it’s a great design as well. That geometry is perfect! (very important as clearances are tight with the hub), and there is plenty of ankle/knee clearance.
I might be wanting to get a 36" Triton frame next year.
@gazza: With a GF like that it’s no wonder you’ve been f*cking around all summer.
I may be interested in a Schlumpf & fat tire compatible 26" frame. When my ship comes in…
I guess Triton is all about the titanium. But for a cheaper alternative maybe it would be worth considering aluminum versions too? Because the weight wouldn’t be significantly more but you could sell more of them for a lower price…
For me the titanium material is not the reason to get a Triton frame anyways. And at the current prices I might not be getting one for a long time.
Just a little thought, I don’t know if the company actually uses any aluminum frames.
Does this mean you will be able to finish the handle bar setup for me now? I kind of hope so, as that would be just the thing I need to finish my Triton Sponge unicycle. Although, I kind of hope not too, as I don’t have the money to pay for it any more. Have you still got the template I sent to you?
Ken, thanks!
Yes, we still do have your 29" frame geo, so we can clone it
Glad you are enjoying your ride!
munirocks, haha Yes, she is daaaaamn good. Having the time of my life. But it’s not easy to deal with such beauty and character
As far as the alu is concerned, of course I had thought about that before. Ages before the first uni was produced. But the factory specializes in titanium. We don’t have good and cheap tubes in Russia.
China is the best place to produce mass production alu frames. Though the quality issues may arise. I have been contacted by a various number of chinese factories. It’s not a problem to begin producind cheap and light alu frames. I just need to get some money and calculations done.
uninorcal, no problem about making a longneck frame.
I picked up my Pride Titanium frame yesterday, put it together and rode it last night, nice and stiff, very light.
I don’t have a way to post pics from work, so I’ll try to get some up later in the week. Here’s a link to the frame builder:
If you watch his webpage, he also said he’d post frame pictures when he had time.
He said it would be approx $750 for a frame, price slightly higher or lower depending on leg length. He can spec the seat tube for any diameter. This price is with brake mounts. The style is a “cut edge” crown similar to the Triton. He can build it any width or make it narrow and pinch the tube for clearance.
All work is custom, bearing holders are modeled on the specs for a Schlumph hub, so they look similar to a KH bearing holder.
I don’t have any involvement in the frame building process, so don’t email me for suggestions, info, etc…
Talk to David, the owner of Pride for more information.
So there you go, a domestic ti frame builder in good ole Tennessee
I agree - the Triton looks (much) nicer IMO. Partly the shape of the crown and partly the finish. I just like the slightly matte finish on the Triton, rather than what looks like a highly polished finish on the Pride (looks like chrome, which to me makes it look cheap). And the name reminds me of nasty Kia cars or cheap tinned food :p, but that may not be so in the US!
Anyway, it’s all academic because I’m never likely to spend that much on a unicycle frame (I’m thinking about buying a KH29 frame and feeling guilty about that!)
Nice to see some different choices available though.
I agree, it looks pretty good, but not as good as the Triton. I also have the impression that it might not be perfectly straight. Is that the case? That would obviously make it somewhat less enjoyable. I hope I’m wrong though.
No, it’s straight, that’s just an off angle shot. The finish is what ou make it, ie how you rub it out. It’s not as bright as it looks. Ti is all the same color unles it’s polished or dulled by rubbing with a ruugh 3m cloth.
I agree that it’s not as fancy in the crown as the Triton, BUT the bearing holders are spec’d on the Schlumph, which means it’s ready for a guni. The bearing holders set the Pride apart from all but KH frames!
