Mar 09, 2010 - 8:36 PM - by brianoc15
Hello!

Dublin is hosting its first ever Unicycle Basketball Tournament This comes after the first Irish Unicycle Basketball Tournament which took place up in Belfast just a few weeks ago. Due to a great success and popular demand, Dublin will be hosting one in conjunction with its annual Circus Festival (aka juggling convention)

Details are as follows:

Location: Larkin Hall, Cathal Brugha St, Dublin 1 (Just off O'Connell St.)

Hall open:
Fri 1700-2200
Sat 0900-1900
Sun 0900-1900

Great Hall, great location, Renegade and fire show, likely accomodation and food discounts, workshops, T-shirts &Hoodies, circus games, gaming area, shops... and a Unicycle Basketball Tournament!!!

We are also looking for someone to instruct an advanced unicycle workshop. We can cover flights, and accomodation and possibly a small fee.

If you are interested in joining the tournament or giving a workshop please email brianoc15@hotmail.com. If you dont have a team, dont worry, we will be putting together teams of teamless players!

Check back for updates and mark that date in your calender for the best weeekend in Dublin!!

As a group, we will make our way up to the first summit on Los Robles trail.

Trail length is around 2 miles, semi technical, cross country trail.

Please respect all other trail users. I very much doubt that the 5 miles an hour speeds we reach on one wheel will create havoc on these public trails, but you never know.

3 Races, 2 Days, 1 Wheel - July 17-18, 2010
Feb 16, 2010 - 4:08 PM - by unigoat
The first Butler County Stage Race is on! This is the first (hopefully annual) unicycle stage race in Western Pennsylvania (USA).

The short details:

Saturday, July 17th: City Parks Time Trial. A 6.6 mile (approximately) closed course featuring the parks of Butler. In addition to the regular smooth flat paved roads the course includes some hills, brick streets, and pockmarked pavement.

Also on the 17th: Main Street Criterium. This closed course includes a flat brick road section and a lollipop loop around the courthouse area. The bicycle course is around 1 mile per lap which is too long for unicycling- especially for those using less than a 36 inch wheel. We're finalizing a good balanced unicycling course.

Sunday, July 18th: Renfrew Rás Road Race. This challenging 8.6 mile loop includes 900ft of climbing (and descending) per lap. (We may extend the 3 lap option a slight bit to get an official marathon distance, although it is plenty challenging enough already.)

We also have a local skatepark (which is getting some uni trials obstacles this spring!) and a lot of good muni riding for those who haven't yet had enough riding.

Racing classifications are being finalized as are costs and many many other details. Definitely all unicyclists are welcomed in Saturday's events. For the Renfrew Rás Road Race a virtual wheel size of 28 inches or greater is recommended as is a brake. The hills around here are rideable without, but they are steep.

The Butler County Stage Race weekend is being put on in conjunction with an elite amateur bicycling event (Cats 1-5). We'll not only have the benefit of well constructed courses with ample markings, marshalling, and all of the amenities that go with an elite cycling event- We will be able to be ambassadors to the general public and bicycling public as well. Last year the 1-day Renfrew Rás drew 100 bicyclists, this year 200+ are predicted.

We're hoping to make this the premier east coast (USA) unicycle weekend. We're working on keeping costs down and the fun up. This will be a weekend for racers and non-racers alike. We've already got a lot of local support outside of the cycling community for events to fill out the weekend's schedule.

I realize that NAUCC is slated for this weekend this year as well. We're not trying to compete- this is the weekend that was available locally. If you're not headed to San Francisco, you should check out Butler.

http://www.butlerwobble.blogspot.com will have more details as they develop. You can also email me at dave(dot)bikes(at)yahoo(dot)com. (Replace the dots and at with the appropriate symbols).

Unicycle For The Arts- CA Distance Ride in June
Feb 11, 2010 - 8:22 PM - by pfalvi
Hi all!

The Unicycle for the Arts Foundation is looking for participants to ride in a 250 mile, five day distance ride across the state of California in June.

A bit about the UFTA:
Unicycle for the Arts is in the process of becoming a nonprofit corporation, raising funds to support the Performing Arts departments of local high schools through an annual long distance unicycle ride. A test ride was executed in June of 2009, and the route (minus a few rough patches) remains the same. We travel from South Lake Tahoe to San Francisco, along a route which can be viewed at UnicycleForTheArts.com.

There are several options for involvement;
1) Ride the full distance. If you would like to support your high school, we can arrange advertising and demonstrations to happen there to rally support. All funds donated to your school will be kept track of, and a lump sum will be given upon completion of the ride. Your school will also receive a percentage of funds donated without a specific school in mind.
2) Ride along for a day, half a day, an hour, or through your town. If you want to participate or ride but cannot commit to the full five days, join us whenever you can! We can still arrange donations for your school and you will have participated!
3) Can't ride or know a participant and want to help? No problem! Depending on the number of unicyclists participating, we will need an extra support vehicle and driver. Maybe even more!

It is our hope to have as many unicyclists join us as possible for the ride, and if that means you can only ride along for a day, wonderful!

No longer in high school? That's fine! Neither are the organizers or first participants. We donate to our alma maters. Not interested in donating to your school, or don't have an affiliation? Come along nonetheless! Ride for the cause! (And to say that you've done a grueling 250 mile unicycle trip across the state.)

If you are interested in helping out in any way, including participation, support, or donations, please visit our website, www.UnicycleForTheArts.com, and send us an email at contact@UnicycleForTheArts.com for more information.

(Added Bonus! There is the possibility of purchasing high quality 36 inch unicycles for very discounted prices if you participate in the ride!)

Deadline to participate:
March 30, 2010, but the sooner you let us know the better.
