Where are we meeting and at what times friday, saturday and sunday?

The meet location should be where everyone can park -- even those not staying at the camp sites.

Thanks,

It's my understanding that the trail head is adjacent to the Beaver Dam campsite. I think everyone is eventually going to have to filter through the campsites no matter what.

Looking at the map, general parking does appear to be between 0.5 - 1 mile from the campsite though.

Hi all, Chuck here, responding to Stephen's question about homebrew ...
Unfortunately I am in between batches and do not have any to bring; however, I do have a cranberry melomel (mead) and a straight mead that I will bring. Being the beer snob that I am, I will also bring a good selection of quality, tasty microbrews.

Does the area have single track that can be ridden with a 36er?

I keep wondering if I am the only one coming to the party with a 24... I hope the group is looking to do more than just XC riding.

Anyway, Ben is out to prove that his 36 can go anywhere my 24 can go.

I guess I will bring 24, 29 and 36er.

I want to do some intense single track. I also want to try things I have never tried on my 36er.

I have not ridden Douthat, but the pictures suggest a wide variety of terrain, and of course one person's "hard core" could be another person's "XC", so just bring all your unis and use what fits.

I'll either be riding a 29er or a 36er, depends on how hard I want to work

FYI, I have a muni for sale, a KH 26 with an Oracle disc brake hub http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93194

and Knoxuni has a Nimbus 24 muni that he's selling http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93151.

Is anyone interested in buying one of the munis??

I only want to bring them if someone is seriously interested...

I hope the trails are suitable for a 29er. I only have room for one uni and from some videos I've seen my 26er with the duro would kill me on some of those climbs. Heck, who am I kidding, those climbs will kill me on the 29er as well. I see quite a bit of hiking in my future.

At least the 29er is far, far lighter. Hope that choice doesn't prevent me from being able to do more technical trail. Anyone ever been out there? Just how technical are these trails?

jbt, I'll be on my 26 with the Duro. I'm planning on switching out the venture 150's for my KH165/137's just so I have a climbing/decending option and a bombing single track option. I have a WTB Stout 2.3 that is a nice light Muni tire but the Duro 3.0 disguises my lack of skill on roots and the rough stuff.

With the Duro inflated to 20 rather than 12 psi rolling resistance improves to pretty good but it then throws me on the bumps.

So many compromises there is no perfect unicycle- I'm lining up my excuses now

I'm not planning on bringing the 29 slick road short crank scar inflicting Nimbus.

I'll walk with you plenty I'm sure and we won't be alone.

We can scout stuff out on Friday, there is often a better route if we follow the topos, so a short walk for a big downhill, also the horse route is labeled as easy and intermediate, so if a horse can do it...

I ride everything on a 29er, but I used to do the same on a 26er, so you should bring what you like to ride. At the Raccoon Mountain Munigathering I brought both, rode the 26er on Sat afternoon and spent the whole time wishing I had my 29er

How about a head count for folks who can ride Friday afternoon? Is a meet and start riding time of 6pm reasonable?

Saturday morning we can start ~9am, though if there are any folks coming in that morning, we can wait a little bit, then ride till noonish, take a nice break, then ride in the afternoon when it cools off. What I'd really like to do is go for a ride, then go swimming

Sunday morning, early ride, a little shorter, then head home...

PMs sent to BrickMan and paxuni.

I hope to arrive at Douthat State Park around 1 p.m. on Friday, June 29th. I'll be driving in from Charlotte, NC that morning (about 4.5 hrs) and will have to assemble my KH29. So, if a crew wants to head out around noon, don't wait for me.

Looking forward to riding with you all, and meeting many of you for the first time.

Cheers,

Excuses & Walking

You can make up all kinds of excuses about equipment, but the way I figure it is that I'll be the rider with the greatest disadvantage in trying to learn how to ride through all that THICK AIR out there.

(And then there's the issue of humidity. Yipes! )

No doubt some walking will be in order... and maybe a head dunk in a branch.

At any rate, I'm not that much of a climber, and when you compound that with the thick air, I know I'll be walking a fair fraction of the ups.

Cheers,

I don't really want to rub it in (or maybe I do just a little for Ben's benefit ), but when I left the house at 5:30 this morning for my 10-mile ride on the pipeline trail, it was 54 degrees with 5% humidity and a nice breeze -- and it was probably 50 at the trailhead around 8,000 feet.

So remind me again why I UPD'ed in Utah?

(At least this mid-Atlantic thing is gonna cure me of my dry skin. )

Here is an update on my plans...It looks like 4 pm Friday arrival for me. I plan on bringing my Kh29 and 24 Oracle and maybe my 24 beater. I have to leave by dark at the latest. I wont be eating or staying. Altough I have talked about trading or selling my 29 I will probably be keeping it.

So the big question is where and who can meet up to ride at 4pm. I do have contact info saved. Whos campsite can I park on?
