Jobs was apparently very private when it came to his personal and family matters, and there are reports that he made his charitable contributions "anonymously". A lot of very wealthy people have been known to do this, so as not to draw so much attention that they become deluged with donation requests 24/7. But they probably are anyway, to some extent.

"Steve Jobs was a large anonymous donor to Amnesty International, according to John Markoff of the New York Times. Markoff shared this information on a public radio talk show in San Francisco yesterday."

If I invent a product that allows you to heat your home at a fraction of the cost of what it takes for you to heat your home now, I could make a $billion profit on this product from $ I got from you when you purchased my product. You are wealthier because now you don't have to pay as much to heat your home and you either have more resources to acquire others things, or you can work less and enjoy more leisure time. Just because I made billions, doesn't mean that it has to come at a cost to you, you become wealthier too.

Now, if I made an inferior product and was able to use coercive power of a criminal protection racket to force you to buy my product, then you would have reason to complain that I made $billions at your expense. That's not the case with Steve Jobs entrepreneurial activities.

Meanwhile, Steve Jobs is responsible for getting lots of us to buy all our albums again. Not that this wasn't going to happen anyway, at some point, but he's the one responsible for the digital music revolution. And a lot of the stuff that went with it, including the eventual caving to sell non-DRM songs & albums.
