Should the Skill Levels be Altered?

Ever since I started riding, I marveled at the amazing list of skills that could be learned by any aspiring unicyclist; these are, of course, the 10 Levels of Unicycling.
While these skill levels are a fantastic representation of anyone's skill, I notice that during the last 4 or 5 levels, the primary focus is on freestyle, rather than other riding styles which are equally as prominent.

Should there be different sets of skill levels for different riding styles? Or, should they stay the same? Be abolished entirely?

(Ok then. Time to see if I can figure out how to post a poll)

I think that there should be 5 Main levels and then 5 or more advanced levels for each style of riding.

Oooh...sorry to see you figured that out. Do you think you could figure out a way to post the results of your poll in a meaningful manner? I thought not.

Care to explain? I don't quite understand what you're getting at.

He's just trollin'. A couple of people on here just hate polls. A couple think "Just Conversation" should be renamed "Off Topic". Just ignore it.

Ah. While I agree that some of the polls on these forums are ultimately pointless and stupid (including the recent circus poll...), occasionally you have one or two that are actually somewhat important, Harper. Perhaps you should be constructive, rather than disheartening?

If I CAN figure out a way to post my results in a meaningful manner, and display it to the IUF, would your opinion about my poll here change? Frankly I don't care.

I agree. I just wanted to see everyone's opinion on it. And it worked. So who says polls are pointless?

You might want to find out what a poll is before you conduct one. It's basically a tool used to extrapolate opinions or trends within a large group by sampling a small but accurately representative portion of that group. A reasonable extrapolation can only be formed if the sample group is large enough and/or actually representative. In addition, the responses must represent the trend sought within a certain confidence level and it's usually a good idea to try to present useful and meaningful information as a result. Given the size of the target group, the size of the sample group, and the confidence level required some determination of the trend can be estimated. In order to do that the data must be assembled, analyzed, and finally presented along with the uncertainties. Which parts of this do you intend to do other than post a poll?

Don't worry, Harper just likes to grumble whenever he sees polls[*], don't take it personally. I like to see what people's opinions are, so I think they're a nice thing to kick off a discussion thread. I voted for expanding to different sets of levels for different skills - I actually like the idea that the 5 highest levels are specialised and the lowest levels are common.
[*] Note that Harper thereby bumps polls up the front page again... Maybe he secretly likes them. It's OK, your secret is safe with us...

The complete and utter lack of any meaningful results posted for every poll initiated on RSU speaks for itself.

Here is a link to the only known poll properly conducted on RSU.

And Harper bumps the poll again... It's not a scientific experiment, it's asking a few people their opinion on something in a less complicated way than alternating posts. Happy voting!

This is a UNICYCLE FORUM. What kind of meaningful results are you looking for?

You should make a thread with a poll: "What IUF skill level do you think harper is". Dude sometimes your funny but I think your being stupid about this one.

I agree there should be 5 main (but basic skill levels) and 5 other skill levels for each other style. But then again 5 isn't much... For street, going from the skill of a footplant crankflip, into what I would see being the final skill, something like crankflip into a bluntslide then flip/spin/twist out, or late treyside flipping a stair set and catching early. BUT cause things like trials flatland and street progress so fast...makes it a lot harder.

But yeah I'd love to see flatland, trials and street levels.
