Great to see a flatter, less padded saddle (pretty similar to the Street?). The Fusion Slim looks like the discerning distance unicyclist's saddle of choice. I look forward to trying one out.

You know me so well

Actually, I said so when Kris mentioned it in Mongolia. Not sure why its aimed at flatland.....I think it's going to be the best XC MUni and Road saddle out there.

Great!

Thanks Kris for these new improvements on your already excellent saddles!

Just wonder now whether the ideal saddle for distance is going to be the new Fusion *Slim* (RedWelly/GizmoDuck's vote), or the new Fusion *Street* (your vote)???

I will definitely want to buy 2 of these: one for my 36 Uni, one for my 26 GUni - since saddle soreness is today, in my view, one of the key limiting factors in our preferred sport (especially for in-road use).

Will carefully look at UDC UK's Web site to see when they get in!

Cheers, MadC.

Thank you so much for the upgraded designs of the KH seats! I love the idea of the bolts not turning but I was thinking that having the bolts welded on would make the reinforcement plate completely worthless once you break a bolt because you'd need to put in new bolts?

Perhaps, but bolt breakage should be really rare. Note it's the insert, not the bolt, that's tacked in place.

This new slim saddle looks awesome! I think KH seats are by far the best stock seats on the market. I do a lot of flip tricks, and my KH seat is still going strong after about a year. Add the stiffener plate and I don't see how you could possibly break the seatbase. I have never tried a cf base, and with seats like this available, I don't see why I would ever need one. Great work!

One word : Street.

Once you start doing flip tricks off anything bigger than a 3 set, and mess up, you'll probably end up breaking the seat.

How thin is the fusion slim saddle compared to an impact saddle?

The next gen KH base has now been out since Spring'09, and was in testing since Fall 2008. Based on the performance so far, strength is comparable to the strongest of the CF bases. Stiffness is slightly less than a CF base without the reinforcement plate, and similar to CF bases with it. More stiffness is moot because, beyond this point, saddle handle flex becomes the limiting factor. And beyond a certain point, if you're breaking highly reinforced plastic and steel with your crotch, it's probably good that it broke =)

In other words, strength is no longer really a deciding factor for choosing a CF base over this base. Weight is more of a deciding factor, although this too is lessened by the fact that the base forms only part of the saddle; the rest doesn't change. Plus there's the cost issue.

Weight on the Fusion Slim saddle is about 750 g (will vary somewhat saddle to saddle).

I don't have an Impact saddle to compare it to in terms of thickness. The Impact saddles are not bad saddles though; in no way am I criticizing them here =). In general, simply measuring foam dimensions is not really sufficient for gauging pros/cons of a saddle.

Kris

Oh, I was not aware!

That makes me want to buy a new saddle . Do you know how the weight compares to a cf base?

I don't have one right now, at least not in use. Maybe someone else has one they could weigh.

Hey Kris, at some point it would be cool to see handles made for lefty and righty. Nothing fancy, just shaped in one direction or the other. I find that having my hand grip square to my body cramps some muscles in the right center and lower portion of my back (I grip right handed)

I don't pull hard on the handle either, so I can only relate it to the position of the handles in the first place.
