It's an Aussie tradition. The Sydney Opera House and our national flag were designed by competition winners.

I'll rephrase that, I like your countries lazy approach to this as well :P
I can't wait for this! The street comp showdown will be a good test for me and Dan Cowling, for Unicon. Questions about uninats competitions(street comp), post them here? Or is there someone specific to contact?

^ You can post the questions here. The venue will most likely be the Camberwell (Junction) Skate & BMX Park. The exact format has yet to be decided. It will probably depend on numbers of entrants and available time.

A quick update
Most of our venues have been confirmed. To enter you will need to register which can be done via the AUS website beforehand or at the event. The form should be on the website soon.
Australians need to be a member of the AUS, to join see the website or sign up at the event. A full timetable and list of venues should be available shortly. Any questions can be emailed to myself: mrimpossible4@gmail.com

The social ride is still under consideration but your suggestion sounds good. I will pass it on to the committee. Will you be leading the group, Mal?

I am really looking forward to this! Have you decided which trails the Muni XC and downhill will be run on yet? Are you thinking of using the Kurrajong 6 hour course for the XC? Thanks for putting so much effort putting it together to all those involved.

We will be checking out the trails soon to work out the course. At this stage we are probably going to use the Stockyard trails for everything. Logistically it will be simpler to have every event in the one area.
We will try to have a beginner course and expert course for the XC. If we include a DH course it will just be the one course (most likely Trav's Diamond). Get practising!

Looks like you have some really nice trails at the Stockyards to construct the XC Muni course out of. I hope the expert course lives up to its name!
Just a thought, it would be easy to create an 'intermediate' category if you have them do 1 lap of the course, and let the expert category do 2 or 3. It would be a shame to drag people all that way out of the city centre only to have them riding on a short track. I've never ridden at the You-yangs but from looking at the trail map you could make a nice loop using these trails- 1) Starting from the car park, head on to Quarry pit trail (1.8km) 2) Connect onto Cressy Climb (1.5km) 3) Ride along Stockyards Rd (500m approx) 4) Veer onto Lactic Acid (900m) 5) Continue onto Stockyards loop (anti clockwise direction- as suggested by trail map 1km approx) 6) Right onto Dam View (300m) 7) Connect onto Boulder Track and return to car park. (1.2km) Total distance: 7.2km per lap. The beginners have a social muni ride to get involved, the Intermediates have a challenging course that will test their skills, and with 2 or 3 laps the experts have a course they can have a proper race on. Of course I have a vested interest in this- i'm driving all the way from Newcastle exclusively for the Muni events! It would be nice to make the trip worth it. Mark

@Mark:
The race will be short and sweet. One lap only but you are welcome to explore the rest of the park at you leisure. We will not be racing on the Junction track or Kurrajong trails but you can ride on these after the main race. The Kurrajong section offers very fast non-technical trails. Lots of fun if you have the gearing for it. The Cressy Climb has been renamed the Cressy Descent. It is a one way track - please don't ride up it. The Link track is still closed due to storm damage. For more technical riding I recommend the DH race at Trav's Diamond. We will not be racing on the double black diamond trails but if you are looking for a challenge go for it. Bring a full face helmet

It starts this arvo! Social ride at Southbank - we will be stopping along the way to check out trials lines & do some street riding. George will be leading the ride - just look for the bloke in the Kony t-shirt. Meet at the red thing near Queensbridge St intersection with Southbank Promenade, 4pm.
For those of you wishing to attend the flatland in Brunswick George will be guiding people there via the train. Bring some change if you need a ticket. To keep up with all the events check the programme

I attended some of these events on the weekend (as an observer only) but wanted to congratulate the organisers on putting together a great event. And the riders too, really inspirational watching some of you do the stuff you do on uni's across all the disciplines.
Well done all. |
