I don't know why I waited so long, but i'm glad I waited for the 2010 with the wider rim and better hub!

BIG difference in speed for sure! 24 is still tops for the really hardcore MUni, but this baby comes in a close second in that category! Once again, here's the viddy! (Shameless plug haha!)

29 29 29 29 29 29

I've been saying it for a few years. The 29 is my favorite ride.

Sure I've got the 20, 29, and 36.

But the 29 is the most versitile in my book.

Have fun Terry

Me thinks I will be saying the same thing soon! Only my second day (doing rocky technical today) and I'm very impressed with it! I was in Simi Valley from 8am-1:30 riding and filming. Editing now!

Terry.

How does the stock Stout tire feel for smooth surface riding. i.e pavement?

That is of course assuming that you have actually rode it on something smoother than a rock pile.

I haven't tried in yet on non-MUni surfaces; I did ride it briefly in the parking lot of my LBS after having the brake hose shortened and bled, and it seemed to maneuver just fine. The real test would be to ride it for a longer period on the street, but I haven't done that yet.

Thanks Terry. I would appreciate an update on that if you do get a chance to try it out.

I think the only way to really get accurate results is to have MANY races between the two sizes in controlled tests. I think the 29er would win every time, at least on DH.
It looks to me like the course was biased towards a 26. Moderately tight turns, and no bumps to roll over.

I read an article in a recent mag (BIKE Magazine, or Mountainbike Action, I can't remember which) where they tested a 26, 650B, and a 29" all from the same company (a 650B is halfway between the other two). Each was better than the other two in particular situations. The 26 and 29 were each best at a bunch of things, but if you averaged out their scores, the 650B would have won on their test course. Their decision for the best size? It would depend on your terrain and riding style.

I think on a uni, in non-challenging terrain the 29 would definitely be faster, but in moderately tech stuff, I bet a 24 could be the faster of the two i the right conditions.

The "does your dog bite" comment is from my *2nd*, yet-to-be posted 29er video, and not the one I posted in this thread. You must have received a subscription notice? I'm waiting until later to post it.

Edit: I think I know how you saw it. I removed the annotation! Dang!
