Exclamation Unicycle Marathon at the 2 nd of May 2010 in Duesseldorf/Germany

Information about:
Unicycle Marathon at the 2 nd of May 2010 in Duesseldorf/Germany

Within the city Marathon event „METRO Group Marathon Duesseldorf“ our local Unicycle Club „RMSV Frisch auf Duesseldorf e. V.“ is already for the sixth time the organizer of the official separate unicycle competition which is the only event of this kind all over Europe. More than 70 unicyclists from Germany and abroad had registered in 2009. Here you have the unique opportunity to ride in front of more than 300,000 excited spectators without caring about traffic lights and rules right across the city center and some suburbs of Duesseldorf. For the unicyclists with german passports this competion is the sixth official national championship.
Unicyclists of minimum 16 years (relevant = year of birth = 1994) which are able to ride the 42.195 km Marathon distance on a unicycle within maximum 4.30 hours have to register twice, i. e under
www.metrogroup-marathon.de and parallel under www.rmsv-duesseldorf.de

You can participate in one of the two different disciplines:

Standard with technical limitations as max. 28”x 1,75” tyre, crank arms of min. 114mm and 1:1 gear

Unlimited without any major technical limitations.

Within the Standard there will be three different age groups for men and only one for women. There is one Unlimited competition for men and one for women. Moreover there will be special prices for undercutting the existing track records.
It is mandatory to wear a helmet and gloves, recommended are protectors for knees and elbows too.
Registration fee varies between 39 and 70 EUR depending on the time of registration.

Registration have to be made before the 18 th of April 2010.

As this event is primarily an event for runners and we are on the same track with them the unicyclist who need more than 2:20 hours will have to give priority to the top runners !

Probably we will offer accomodation in our gym at a price of 10 EUR/person.
In any case of misunderstanding the detailled information in german language is valid. So please ask beforehand if there are any doubts.

Non-metal pedals?

Hi

I read from Unicycle Magazin that last year metal pedals were not allowed. Is there the same rule this year?

Any other limitations in the stadard group? Is there any limitations in the handles in the standard group?

Yes we have the same rule this year.
For all unicyclists the following restrictions apply:
The use of metal pedals or pedal mounting systems (Clickpedals, toe clips, straps, etc.) is not allowed for security reasons.

Hello Tuomas,
as in the last years only pedals made of plastic are allowed to avoid any injuries to other unicyclists, spectators or runners. Best are the Miyata pedals which keep your feet on the pedals even when it is raining. In the Standard group the following limitations are to be considered:
- max 28"x1,75" tyre with a diamater of about 72,5 cm
- crank arms of min 114 mm
- 1:1 (no gears etc)
see details on homepage www.rmsv-duesseldorf.de in german and english language.
Best regards

Ok, I'll get new pedals. I didn't find this in the "english details".

The rest of the limitations I found easily: 28" 1,75" 114mm and 1:1.

Are those all the rules and limitations?

Hi,
which standard unicycle do you recommend for the marathon ?

Do you know if the Nimbus 29" Tour unicycle (it seems that it uses a 28" tire) can be used as an standard unicycle ?
http://www.einradladen.net/shop/show...roducts_id/368

Thanks!

The Uni will be OK if you mount a 28x1.75 tyre, replace the Alu-pedals with plastic pedals and make sure that the cranks are at least 114mm long.

Mounting a 28x1.75 tyre on a 40mm wide rim works fine.

If you use the 28x2.35 tyre, you will be classified as "unlimited"

You can also use this one, with the 28x1.75 tyre and 114 mm cranks.
