Google Chrome -talk-

Hey,

So I've always used Mozilla Firefox, because I know it's fast, and you can customize it quite a bit .. things like changing the font for each site, which I really like.

So today I downloaded Google Chrome, and I go Options>Minor Tweaks>Change font and language settings and choose which font I want, and after when I exit out of the option tab, nothing has changed. Why is that?

Would it make a difference if I had the BETA version? And what's the difference from BETA vs. non-BETA?

Anyways, let's talk about Google Chrome

-Isaac

Hmm... Beta/non-Beta. Normally software goes through a revision process that starts with pre-Alpha (non working but good idea), Alpha (kind of works, pretty buggy), Beta (works very well, somewhat buggy... maybe), Release Candidtate (fairly stable last pre release bug fixes), and production release.

As far as I know Google doesn't let any pre-Beta software out, and hasn't ever released software out of Beta. Even the famous search engine with their name is in Beta.

I can't say why your experiences with Chrome are awry. I have played around with it when I'm on windoze machines, and I found it to be simple, fast, and had just about everything a normal user would want/need in a browser.

I think Chrome is faster, but I really miss the Undo Close Tab feature of Firefox. Other than than, I like the look of Firefox.

I use chrome full-time now, it's quick and simple. Good for my crap-e old computer.

If you download this program you can change your chrome updater, so it downloads from either:

Dev channel. This developer preview channel is where ideas get tested (and sometimes fail). The Dev channel can be very unstable at times, and new features usually require some manual configuration to be enabled.

Beta channel. People who like to use and help refine the latest features subscribe to the Beta channel. Every month or so, we promote stable and complete features from the Dev channel to the Beta channel. The Beta channel is more stable than Dev, but may lack the polish one expects from a finished product.

Stable channel. Everyone is on the Stable channel when they first install Google Chrome. The Stable channel is updated with features and fixes once they have been thoroughly tested in the Beta channel. If you want a rock solid browser but don't need the latest features, the Stable channel is for you.

I personally use the beta channel, it doesn't seem that buggy to me.

About the fonts, why would you ever need to change them?

No Mac version yet? Blah. I finally did get Picasa, now that there's a Mac version, but haven't played with it much because I've been teaching myself Adobe Lightroom.

My favorite browser currently is Firefox, and I use a theme called Scribbles Kids. It has silly-looking icons/buttons, and used to feature a guy who juggled while pages loaded. Sadly, they've done away with that in the latest version of Firefox (3.5?) but I still like my silly browser theme. And the ability to recall accidentally-closed tabs.

My secondary browser is "everything else" as I have to test Web pages as I create them.
