California is the best state. Gay marriage is now legal.

I may be straight, but as Mahatma Gandhi said "No one is free when others are oppressed."

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...,6182317.story

In my book, the world just got a little better today.

I'm also not gay, but I'm glad to hear that gays can marry now in California. Don't see why they shouldn't be able to, the people opposing it aren't affected by it.

Please be sure to state your sexual orientation if you post in this thread. Just so there is no confusion.

[that's sarcasm, by the way...]

Just read this in the same report:

"The question is whether the court will acknowledge that this is going to be on the ballot in November and stay its hand," Pugno said. "It's really to no one's benefit to legalize same-sex marriage for four months if the voters are ultimately going to amend the constitution. That would just create chaos and great uncertainty about the status of those marriages."

Oh really? That's not what they're saying.

The people opposing it are making dozens of arguments why it shouldn't be allowed... but they all stem from the fact that the institution of marriage is built upon a foundation of religious intolerance.

Keep reading, Terry:

Ahhnold also said, "as I have said in the past, I will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling."

A lesbian couple that I know lives in Cali and have been engaged for years. They've been waiting anxiously for this day and they are going to run to the courthouse ASAP.

Congratulations to all of California's loving couples!

I'm still on the fence as far as gay marriage. Right now if it came to a vote in Colorado, I would not vote on it.

I do agree that they deserve the same right as a male/female married couple in the eyes of the law. I'm much more comfortable with a civil union.

Can you explain the difference? Why is one acceptable, but not the other?

In the UK we have "civil partnerships" which, as far as I understand them, have the same legal effects, rights and responsibilities as "marriage". Perhaps you can't claim that the union is sanctified by God, or some such similar nonsense, but I suspect the alternative name is nothing but a sop to the bigots.

when the constitution was written, the saying "all men are created equal" refers to white males. anyway back to the discussion, i'm straight and i think gay marriage should be abolished. marriage=1 man & 1 woman.
