I don't bring guns anywere, they almost never leave my dad's room.

Although my dad was considering getting a concealed weapons permit "just to exercise his right to do so" even though we currently don't own a pistol yet.

You don't want to carry around a lot of weight, so a compact or sub-compact pistol would be most appropriate. Everyone has their caliber of choice, I prefer a .40 cal myself. My mom has a .38 special and my dad, well, he prefers a 12 ga. shotgun and isn't much for pistols.

Kel-Tec P3AT for deep concealment. Kimber 1911 .45ACP for everything else.

Agoraphobia

I have no fear of being a victim of a crime. I am just prepared. Not even remotely close to a fear. That's like saying you buy life insurance because of an irrational fear of dying. Not buying it when you have a family is just plain stupid. I feel the exact same way about other ways to protect my family.

Not exactly the same because your chances of dying are 100%, whereas your chances of being the victim of violent crime are much lower.

A post in the Guns thread gave me a better way to phrase it anyway.

What is the word for an irrational fear of "bad people"?

3.) I would feel safer knowing that bugman was armed while riding. Why does that make sense, Billy?

The option excluding me revealing my armed status and claiming to feel safer knowing that bugman will be armed has been omitted.
Bugman's idea is that we'll be safer (and avert being attacked) if they suspect or know we are armed. It should be advertised: Tee shirts saying Armed Unicyclist!!

Personally, I'd never give a gun to a person that not only doesn't know what agoraphobia is, but still continues to use the word regardless of the shameful fact.

I haven't heard about the t-shirt idea but I like it. It's stupid, but I like it anyway. I think bugman's point is that in an area where it is legal for citizens to carry concealed it is less likely for violent crime to occur. That would be more like your legislative district advertising "the person you intend to victimize may be legally armed and capable with a lethal weapon" than a unicyclist advertising "I am armed with a lethal weapon." The former puts a potential criminal in a position in which he must assess risks and/or suffer grave (pun intended) consequences. The latter puts an armed unicyclist in a position where a potential criminal sees the opportunity to steal a weapon because he knows roughly where one is and just needs the right time to strike. Better would be to put a sign in your yard that says "my neighbor is anti-gun." Even better, "my senator/congressman is antigun and his/her address is________________________."

Well, what calibers does the KH pistol mount hold?

I don't think you'll find pistol mounts on the KH series. Kris is Canadian, liberal, and I would guess anti-gun. I've never asked him to go shooting with me but I usually see him in Canada.
