As Harper pointed out, GILD has skillfully averted this thread back onto a civil plane. But I'll still follow through here a bit.

If one of us was seriously injured doing a particularly difficult trials line I doubt that the rest of us will find it "Terribly Tragic" You have to realize there is a risk involved with any sport. Hunting is a sport. Many people die every year skateboarding,
You were doing great and making sense up to here.

This is where I lose you. The only thing I can think of is call me an old fogey because I just can't seem to see the comedy in injurious or tragic situations involving human beings.

Even if you don't believe me you can't argue with facts. I was just saying the fact that the odds are small that someone would get shot, and the fact that that person was Dick Cheney is very ironic.

I wasn't trying to insult you, just point out the irony, and open the topic to discussion. If you think what happened (to Harry Whittington and your friend) is terrible then why aren't you for gun control, and if you hate what is happening to our troops then why would you be for the war?
Whether or not I'm for gun control or the war is irrelevant in this discussion. It I could quote you, "You have to realize there is a risk involved with any sport." (How well I know this!) The issue or discussion is whether or not an injury is funny. Again, I agree that there is irony involved in Mr. Whittington getting shot but it is definitely not humorous.

I have, on more than one occation, seen the comedy in injurous or tragic situations involving human beings. When e.g. reading about a Darwin Award I realize how the relatives must feel, but I still found the story amusing. A more compassionate person would _only_ feel sorry for the award winner and the relatives, but I can't live up to that standard.

I don't see how you can discuss whether or not something is funny. Laughter just happens. It's not up for discussion first.

(Yes, I'm taking part in a discussion by postulating that the issue can't be discussed. I see the irony, and leave it up to you to find it humorous or not)

I think we can all agree that the situation is ironic, and that they both should of been more careful in the first place...continuing this discussion will only result in an argument....call it closed?

Most of that story was fairly average, not funny, not pity-inducing, but THAT I chuckled at a bit.

The story trips my ironic flag and karma flag, but not my funny flag.

The two things that trip me are that she was apparently yapping on a cell phone at the time and driving a pickup truck (I'm going to assume a full sized pickup truck). Both of those are things that rub me the wrong way and make me wish bad things upon those people.

I don't like people yapping on cell phones as they drive because that action puts me in more danger from their distracted driving. I view it as a selfish act as in they consider their yapping more important than their safe driving. That is just selfish.

I don't like SUVs and big pickup trucks because they are not appropriate vehicles for city driving and city driving seems to be where they are most popular. They're big, they're hard to see around, they're hard to see over, they have higher ground clearance which makes the top heavy and more prone to roll overs, they're pigs, they don't fit in normal parking spaces, they're pigs, and they're the epitome of selfishness when used as city vehicles and daily drivers for commuting.

So two strikes for selfish behavior. The karma from that came around and got her. That's the irony. Not funny though.

Well I didn't think it was particularly funny, as in something you'd tell at a party and then everyone would laugh heartily and grab another beer, but as something just so ironic that I can't help but chuckle at the stupidity of some people.

I have to say, if that line had not been included in the article, I would probably have felt generally sorry for the poor broad.

So what really happened? I mean, this whole thing is probably a diversion to cover up something even bigger that the bush admin did...

If it was a diversion Fox News would have covered it. I think this was an honest mistake that the bush administration tried to cover up, that is why it is getting coverage on other news stations, but not Fox News.

Nah, this is the same as the pretzel incident. It could've been covered up so easily but it wasn't.
Immediately my tin-foil hat's antennae are buzzing.

The fact is they need to stop covering up everything they do. It's just BS that we can't know what our government is doing.
