harper, I think you might be overdramatising the situation a little bit...
I'm pretty sure koebwil is just pointing out the irony of the situation of a hunter going out to shoot something, and ends up getting shot, but not fatally
If the hunter had gotten killed, personally I would not have found that funny at all....What i said wa so funny earlier, was the way the first post was phrased

I don't think Greg has over dramatised at all. Matter of fact, he couldn't seem to spew out the point blank truth fast enough to engage Mr. Koebwil's narrow mind in a rational, mature discussion. Hunters getting shot is funny? It sure wasn't funny when my good friend was shot years ago in much the same manner and I stood over him waiting on the ambulance while he bled into the dirt. Sorry, I missed that humor somewhere.

And Mr. Koebwil didn't mean ironic at all. From what I read, he meant haha funny. Dare to deny that Mr. Koebwil? As a comparitive example, I would wager Mr. Koebwil is also against the war, or any war for that matter. Our soldiers volunteered to put themselves in harm's way. I suppose it's hilarious and LOL funny, especially to a soldier's parents, that our young men and women get visciously taken out by a bullet or bomb.

This is a rarity for me...but let go of your tree long enough to grow up, koebwil!

I'm not agreeing with him, I don't find it funny either, I just took it as koebwil pointing out the irony, and not laughing...I might of just not read close enough

Yep. Classic definition of an accident. It happens. And accident hindsight is clearly always 20/20.

But see, that's the thing. I agree here that some who are against hunting may see it as irony. As a hunter, I don't see it that way. But most of us agree that we are all entitled to an opinion. But differences aside, it's just that no one in their right mind should view someone getting shot or hurt in an accident, no matter in what field or arena it happens, as hilarious comedy.

Edit: By the way, my friend who was shot in the woods some 20 years ago is fine, no serious effects from it at all. But at the moment it happened, it was beyond scary.

Greg, I have to say, I thought you would've put up a more well-thought-out argument than that.

Honestly, how can you compare homosexuals being tied to a post and beaten to death to some guy getting injured, by accident, by the vice president, while hunting? The setting, non-fatality of the injury, and the man with the gun all combine to make a rather comical situation, in an ironic sort of way. I also happen to think that some homeless guy ODing is comical in an ironic sort of way, just because he wasted any money he might have somehow scraped together on illegal substances, and then inadvertantly killed himself with it. I say good riddance, for helping to cleanse society. What a saint.

I laughed at the story of the deer who invaded a man's house, and then was killed by the same man. I have been hunting before, and I enjoy it. Many people laughed at that story, and many people enjoy hunting. But many of those same people, those who laugh at animal cruelty and shamelessly hunt animals who they have no personal grudge against (in most cases, anyway), consider this some incredibly sad story. A story in which a group of men, invading the home of another creature, manage to harm themselves, which to me, is an act that scores even lower on the intelligence Rictor scale than what happened to the deer. And these people are hypocrites for thinking that.

I, personally, am no hypocrite, and since I'll laugh at the story of the deer, I'll laugh at this story as well, which features no deaths, and even stupider victims.

Yell at me if you want, but that's what I think.

I realize this was an accident. I'm not a moron. I'm saying if he didn't DECIDE that he should go HUNTING with a large number of GUNS it would not have had a chance of happening. I get as angry at these mistakes as other people, but what you have to realize is that it was his decision to go out and play with guns, and I think we can all agree that on occasion when you play with fire you get burned.
If one of us was seriously injured doing a particularly difficult trials line I doubt that the rest of us will find it "Terribly Tragic" You have to realize there is a risk involved with any sport. Hunting is a sport. Many people die every year skateboarding, but that doesn't keep us from laughing when some one falls off one, or even gets hurt badly. There is a risk involved with the sport, and if you are doing the sport and wind up getting hurt it is your fault, even if it's a team sport and someone gets seriously hurt by another player. People have died in hurling, boxing, and a bunch of other sports.

Even if you don't believe me you can't argue with facts.

I was just saying the fact that the odds are small that someone would get shot, and the fact that that person was Dick Cheney is very ironic.

I wasn't trying to insult you, just point out the irony, and open the topic to discussion. If you think what happened (to Harry Whittington and your friend) is terrible then why aren't you for gun control, and if you hate what is happening to our troops then why would you be for the war?

Oh, yes we can. We have no way of telling how these "facts" were gathered. Statistics is just a fancy way of fibbing with numbers.

I'm not trying to make an argument, I'm just pointing out the fallacy of your statement.

Now that this thread directly affects me, I feel the need for a test to weed out those who I should be more careful around.

Read the following news story. This one could trip up Harper because it involves a cell phone and a pickup truck. If you find any humour in the story then you are a sick sick person or have a deep seated intolerance for inappropriate cell phone use.

Whoa, in my post I clearly stated that I found the post funny, not the story involved. That's a seperate issue.

I found, and still find, the phrasing of the original post funny.

The funny thing is that this person was using a cell phone... that's like so 1980s. Get with the times and upgrade to something that doesn't weight 2 lbs. and is the size of a brick.

As a matter of fact, you can. Quite unusually for these fora, Koebwill quoted his source in some detail. If you want to contest the findings of that study, you are now in a position to investigate it.

And mudslinging there has been. We know you better than this. If there is anyone on the forum who finds unnecessary suffering distasteful and unfunny it's you. If there is anyone who knows how to defuse an out of control situation it is also you. Sorry to erroneously drag you into this by not carefully reading your post.
