I was out for a spin on the Muni today and I had a hound dog just about loose it. The dog went cross eyed first and then began to howl randomly at me and then the owner. Pretty funny.

First time for this one. Spoken by a guy maybe 24 or so in a group of five people: "What the fudge?"

That is not censored, that's really what he said. I've gotten lots of similar ones withe the four-letter variant of that f- word in the past, but this was a first.

Today I went for a great little MUni ride on a local mountain bike trail. A lady of 30-40 or so on a bike stopped to let my friend (who was also on a bike) pass, then, when she saw that I was on a uni she said: "Holy smokes!.... Wow!.... Hero status!"

That was one of the best comments I've had yet.

A guy came up to me last week and said he'd seen me riding and that I was pretty good. Asked if I had any scars, to which I replied "Oh yeah!"

5 minutes after I talked to him, I added to them

While my partner and our dog were in their Rally ("Rally Obedience") class tonight, I rode to REI (Recreational Equipment Incorporated) to pick up an order I had shipped there--tubes and socks, but not tube socks. I got a few comments:

-A bunch of teens were standing around, and they all stared at me from a long distance away as I approached. I said hi, smiled, and waved, and a largish girl asked me whether she could try out my uni. I said, "Well, you could try, but you'd easily fall off!" She said, "That's okay, I have enough booty, I'd bounce right back up!" Of course that was totally unexpected, and I thought it was hilarious. I would have stopped to let her try it out, but I generally don't let people try a uni with pinned pedals.

-A guy on the sidewalk shouted at me, "Hey man, can you pop a wheelie?" I shouted back, "All the time, man!" and I put my hands up in the air as if holding up handlebars. I just started trying rolling hops tonight, so I can't quite do anything more entertaining in response.

-I took the sidewalk along a busy road on the way back, and I passed a cool cat on a bike who seemed to be in his seventies. As soon as he thought we were close enough, he said to me, "Right on, granddad, right on!" Again, unexpected and very entertaining. It was a very positive comment, and I couldn't help but laugh and smile. I assume that with this guy "granddad" is a term of endearment.

"How do you DO that?" - yelled by a young girl after seeing shifting into high gear and speeding into a sweeping S-combination of turns.

My reply: "Practice!"
(I tend to limit myself to one-word responses as I am usually far too much out of breath while riding to produce an intelligible multi-word reply)

"You rule!" - young boy on his way to school
"Look, there´s a one-man-cycle" - young girl who got it pretty much right (disregarding Corbins tandem-uni video)

I get that one every once in a while, and I usually do the same thing.

Yes, I find that little girls are rarely current on the latest obscure youtube videos...

today was great. a guy in a creepy white van yelled at me: (to my surpirise) hey! i bet my buddy that i could ride that thing and he doesnt believe me! can i show him?!
i said you bet and he could ride it quite well. the seat was too low and he couldnt freemount, but he said it had been years. he used to have a sizable collection of giraffes in his garage but he sold them. so, a first for me!

Our town got dumped on today by a severe thunderstorm. We got some big hail, as wide as 1 inch. It was cool. Anyway, I was out patrolling on my trials, and I came across a flooded street. I rode down the sidewalk which had a few inches of water on it. One of the guys cleaning out the storm drain:
"I've never seen a guy on a unicycle in a flood."

Yesterday, rounding the corner onto a main street, I hear...

"Awwwwrrright!"

Not much to think about but when I looked up it was a clown in full costume and makeup driving a big bright floral print car!

Did you ask him if he was in the circus? Bet he gets that all the time...

I got the comment "Can you actually ride that?" A fair question... if I wasn't riding at them time.

I also did a presentation on unicycling the other day, and the person running the presentation got asked by email in response to the ad "Can he ride, or is he just talking about the theory of riding?" Why would I be doing a presentation on unicycles, with demonstrations (as said in the ad) if I can't ride? So I rode into the presentation, hopped around a little, gracefully dismounted and said "So, that's answered one of your questions: yes, I can ride a unicycle."

I seem to get this quite a lot. I normally tell them that I can't as it avoids the obligatory asking me to ride it when I'm walking down the pavement for a reason!

I got it from a guy once when I was riding it, to which I replied that I couldn't. He looked slightly confused for a moment then smiled as he got the joke as I rode off into the distance

Mowcius: good answer...

on the last trip a lady chatted with me for a while with real interest and then at the end she wished me luck with the words: "Break the other wheel!"
