beginner's progress

I started riding last xmas. I rode off season in Ontario for part of the winter, but mostly progressed throughout last summer with trails. However, after reading these posts, I realized I could only do three things. ride forward, ride xc/dh trails, and one mount. "Is there even any way to mount?!?" I would think.

Well, today, as I took my bud out for his 2nd lesson (on my learner's 20") I used the time to try to ride back, and idle. Still no luck really. Then I tried to mount with the other foot. (Do everything the same with both feet" I read here. Got it. So here's what I did for the first time tonight (ever trying) within the hour.

right foot on pedal (all the way back), seat under pelvis, no hands lift left leg to pedal

hand on saddle out in front of crotch, pedals paralell to ground, jump up both feet at the same time. (is this a free mount? I'm unsure of each mount's name)

left foot on left pedal, swing right leg around an over

saddle in crotch pedals up and down, jump with both feet together

And to top it off, my friend made 2 full rotations forward on his 2nd lesson!

Today was a fine day!

Was there a summer between last xmas and now? Must have missed
something...

I'm not an expert on mount names, but I can tell you this mount is a
jump mount. If you balance the unicycle without holding it before you
jump, I think that's known as a suicide mount.
A free mount (or freemount) is any type of mount that is between you,
the unicycle and a flat riding surface. I.e. no support of any kind.
