Look at it this way
There is a moderately strong movement in the mountain bike world where people are using 650B wheels (27.5") They claim it is a sweet spot between 26 and 29" wheels. 29 is only about 11% bigger than 26 while 24 is 20% bigger than a 20. I never really liked the 24" size for anything. too big for freestylish stuff (for me) and to small for muni or anything else (for my likes and trails) 20" feels OK but I think I would be more comfortable on a slightly bigger wheel. I want to try a 22 but need to sell off some unused unicycle bits first. I am getting a bit of a collection. @cmc: you wouldn't want to trade for a used but round and true KH24 rim a couple tires and a new Nokian 24x3 DH tube would you? If not I will wait till spring. I am sort of wishing I didn't sell my 07 KH20 frame since I think it would fit a 22" wheel nicely. On a tangental subject the wheel size we are really missing is 32" I am having a lot of fun with that wheel size.

I want a smooth transition between the 20 and the 24. I was riding the 24 months ago. I don't know what went wrong... other than FEAR after falling and knocking the wind out of my sails more than I wanted... and bruising my hip so it looked like a goose egg.... I'm fairly happy with the improvement after going back to the 20", but I'm still having a TON of trouble freemounting the 24". If I can't get the freemounting, the riding is so frustrating I get discouraged. I want to move to a bigger wheel. I'm thinking if I could take a smaller step BETWEEN the 20" and the 24" it would be really helpful. Thanks for your help everyone. All comments are appreciated! Thanks! OHhhh! The Sun XL is 22.5 inches in diameter. I love mine.

I have a big wide 29 (622x85ish) and a little skinny 32" wheel (700mmx32)
Both measure about 31 3/4" but they are worlds apart in how they feel. I am sure the Sun XL is fun but would be much different in feel to an actual 22" (457mm) wheel.

I've never ridden a real 22", but I also have a 20" Sun Flat Top and a cheapo 24" Torker with normal non-fat tires. The Sun XL rides as you would expect - slightly bigger than the 20" and slightly smaller than the 24". There a few differences in how it rides compared to both. The big tire ads a lot of gyrating mass and the width of the tire is affected more by road crown. The extra tire mass gives it a confident and controlled feel and I feel comfortable cranking the pedals super fast on it. It is more difficult to idle due to the mass of the tire, but it is really easy to hop in place on it. It is a ton of fun for a novelty unicycle and I prefer it over my 20 or 24 for messing around in the cul-de-sac. It's great for one or two mile rides as well.

If we find some rim in 457 or 490mm, then anyway there are not so much tire options.
http://www.everybicycletire.com/Shop...etfilters=true and they have quite a lot of choices in most sizes. |
