three wheeler
how do you freemount a three-wheeler? is it much harder than a 5-foot giraffe uni?
i'm asking cos i'm thinking of buying either a giraffe or a 3-wheeler ... attracted to the latter (mainly for the sheer novelty) but not sure if it's worth the extra expense and difficulty of mounting/transportation ... oh yes, another question, for those who own a Semcycle 3-wheeler: does it take long to assemble/dissasemble? (i'm presuming that it can switch to becoming a regular 1-wheeler too?) julian Last edited by julianlim; 2001-06-28 at 05:00 AM. |

I met someone with a three w and it was 6ft. Free mounting was extremely
difficult. Although i cant free mount a 6 but can a 5ft. Dissasabling? I wouldnt bother if i was you! > giraffe uni? Of course it depends how big it is (how big the wheels are). If they're 16" wheels, you can probably just step on the low pedal. If it's 24" wheels it will take practice, and a step between the wheels to boost you up where you can get on the low pedal. If you have *real* good traction between the wheels, you can do a running mount! But if you have that much traction, riding the thing will probably feel like riding an exercise bike with the friction turned way up... > oh yes, another question: does it take long to assemble/dissasemble? Depends what kind. thanks for the info, guys.
but what exactly do you mean by "problems with friction ... wheel alignment"? ... is this going to be a big worry? also, i take it from the previous posts that mounting a 3-wheeler is essentially the same as a giraffe of similar height? or is there a slight difference in technique? julian |

A problem with friction would typically be that the tires of either wheel pair exhibit slip. That would quickly impair the control you have, since your "commands" given to the pedals are not properly transmitted to the bottom wheel and from there to the ground. If this happens try if increasing tyre pressure helps. The other thing is if the wheels are not aligned to rotate in the same plane. Again the main problem is loss of traction and control as the wheels tend to roll off each other. If you can't adjust alignment there may not much you can do about it. In these respects a giraffe is just more tolerant, which may be a reason that you see them more than 3-wheelers.
