Ride to work day, Melbourne Australia

I also rode to work on ride to work day - Wed 17 October. But I used a Coker, Oakleigh to Melbourne Central. 19 km each way. Didn't make the news. No mouth organ. Barry

I raced my friend to work (we work together) She had her 51" and i borrowed my 40" coker. Seeming as my cousin is overseas at the moment.

The trick to making the news is to phone the paper a few days beforehand. Like I did with this one:

I wasn't there as i planned a big night on that night - didnt want to leave my uni at work... Needless to say $5.00 jugs were consumed in true fashion!
Also, i didnt really want an article like that on me...
I like giving people the mystery of 'who is the man on the unicycle?'

It's that time of year again, the 15th of October creeps nearer.

Who will be doing the commute with their uni?

The 'mystery' unicyclist from 07 ended up being front-page featured on the national website.

I'll be taking the 36 to work this year. I might not have a job by then but I'll probably just ride in anyway

If anyone in Melbourne wants to go out for a beer or 2 that night let me know. I work in the CBD.

Ride to Work day 2008 - Melbourne

MT High
I plan to ride to work on the "ride to work" day on the 36" also. However I had planned to ride home again. Now you mention going to the pub ...

*bump*

It's on tomorrow, Wednesday 15/10/2008.

I'll be at Fed Square for the breakfast in the morning, will probably head out for a ride somewhere in the evening like the bay trail or Docklands.

Hope you are feeling better Barry.

Stay safe people.

We in the Netherlands had our ride to work day last Thursday. Actually it was a "don't drive a car during rush hour" day, so public transport, teleworking, holiday or driving outside rush hour were also options. Anyway, I rode my uni to work (15 km x 2).

Disappointingly, car traffic was just as busy as any other day (corrected for season and workday).

The volume of car traffic varies a lot from day to day, usually for little reason. I have noticed a definite increase in bike traffic on RTW day. Cycling is becoming a more popular commute option in Melbourne every year. Higher petrol prices, gridlocked roads, poor public transport options, improved facilities such as bike lanes and secure parking are all encouraging more bikes onto the road. I think we still have a long way to catch up to the Netherlands though.

I managed to keep up with a BMW for about 5 km

Plenty of bikes on the road, got some nice comments from a few, including some from cute chicks which always makes it worthwhile.
