In his case, he can do echolocation because his ears have become so sensitive since his brain doesn't need to process sight. Or something like that. Not sure about the video games aspect of it, but being blind and deaf didn't stop Tommy becoming a pinball wizard.

he should SO learn to unicycle! and I think his brain developed his ears so well because he lost his sight before his brain finalized the connections (that happens around age 16 or 17 I think) so his sight connections died and his hearing touch and taste took over....
EDIT: I'm not an expert so don't quote me on it.....
