well i did say usually. if it's a $200 unicycle i'm going to say it cost $100. if it's a $1000 unicycle i'm still going to say it cost $100. the point is it really doesnt matter what you tell them unless they're asking because they want to buy one.

This is very strange, because no one would call a white person "black", or a black person "white" to insult them without sounding very silly indeed.

There are two things going on here: the fact that it is easy and cheap to insult someone by calling them something that is opposite to what they really are, and it is all to easy to fall into the trap and feel insulted by it.
i was gonna say that

to those gay insults,
if it is,

your gay!
i say, yeah, so? u got a problem with that?
(generally, if they take this further they are going to dig themselves a hole)

ARE u gay?
i say: NO, but i can be if u want me to...
(hilarity ensues)

Responses that confuse are always fun. The typical comment to a team of Morris dancers is, "Which one's Maurice?" There are about 8 - 15 in a team. the response, "All of us - we're twins," therefore confuses.

This morning a group of us (Jesse Riegel, Eyal Aharoni, Josh Schoolcraft and I) were Muniing down a challenging DH run in Simi Valley (So Cal) called Suicide Connector. Toward the bottom we overtook a team of about 15 pretty hardcore riders who had pulled up at a steep rocky section, full of drops and weird cambered chutes. The riders were enthusiastic but a few were a bit wry and sarcastic. We said hello and charged on right through the hard bit. This was not a "So there!" kind of thing, we simply continued doing what we were doing. Once they saw folks on a Muni cleaning stuff some of them were walking around or falling off, the whole group really came around and started asking questions and filming. They couldn't have been friendlier or more psyched about the whole thing.

Point is, most snide comments come from people who have no appreciation of how hard the whole Muni/uni thing really is. Once people understand--as these folks did--you generally get the respect that we have for each other. When you don't--well, there's difficult people the world over, and the only way to win their game is to not play it in the first instance. The moment you engage a "snapper," you've already lost.
