After a bit of questioning in the Unicycle Maintenance thread, I went out and got some new pedals, they're fairly cheap Wellgo metal ones, and seem to work just fine. Photo is necessary because I like how the colour matches my uni

The second photo is a hill I went up today on my maiden red-pedal voyage. It's not the biggest or the steepest but it's one of the first proper-sized hills I ever tried on a uni!

business trip last week

I had a great business trip last week! First I got to ride close to Epinal in France, then I tried to ride on the Avignon Bridge, but they didn't let me in with the Unicycle, but I got to ride in the beautiful city of Avignon anyway, and then I got to ride on the Holterberg in the Netherlands,

Hi Hayo,
That last picture looked familiar, then I read the text to discover that it is close to my home.
I did the Hellendoorn MTB track a few times on my uni. Do you ride often on the Holterberg? Maybe we can go together sometime.

Greetings,

Tom

Heh, yeah. More crushed and scratched, but yeah. Still; cheap and nifty while it lasts.

Those pedals looked like SPD's, not Eggbeaters, like PeaceMaker said, which I think would work better for Muni.

I read that in a uni trials comp just after I joined this site first place ended up in a tie, which they resolved w/ a hop hight contest. The winner credited his clippless pedals allowing him to hop higher. He also felt they gave him more confidence on the obstacles because he was secured to the uni.

A few years ago a rider here switched to clipless (SPD's) w/ a "casual" style shoe and a pedal that was platform on one side. First he got used to them on his bike, then rode his uni in the driveway for a couple of days untill he could ride one footed, mount, and dismount w/ either foot w/ the pedals on their easiest release setting. Then took it for a few light muni rides. After a couple of rides he whent back to his tech trails and a couple of weeks upped the tension on the pedals.

I can't imagine riding clipless myself, but if I did, I'd definately start w/ beginner cleats (SPD) that will release if you pull up hard.

Dad Survives - 3 boys and a muni ride.

The boys and I had some fun on the Switchback Trail at La Costa Preserve yesterday.

Here we are at the top of the hill(554 vertical feet of walking) at the Boy Scout Kiosk. From left to right - Nathan, Justin, Ethan and Cole(neighbor).

Nathan at the top carefully picking his line thru the rocks.

Ethan switching to hopping.

Cole concentrating through a rough section.

One last group shot!

Nifty enough that I might try it myself at some point. I think I could make it actually last by drilling holes to counter sink the eyes and then setting them in a clear epoxy. The epoxy probably wouldn't even be required.

You would have to have a bumper thick enough though.

Big Woods in Manchester. Actually quite small but big fun. There was a guy walking his greyhound (called Lightening ) and he couldn't believe that I was going to ride down that path on one wheel. He thought I was nuts.
