France has won many more wars than it lost wars, with a better ratio than any other nation. Ask Greg Harper.

The Economist review published this week an interesting article. The title says it all : "Guns don't kill crowds of innocent people, maniacs with easy access to military-grade weapons do".
Some excerpts:
"Gun control will not stop the mad and the bad from murdering their fellows " (examples in Norway and Britain) .....
"No licensing system can screen out all unsuitable people" but ...
"No Hunter, and nobody interested purely in self-defense, needs a semi-automatic rifle with a 100 rounds magazine" (an AR-15 was reportedly used in the Aurora case).

Bear: Excellent!...and now you've heard it again! Your lucky day.

Sometimes life imitates art and sometimes art imitates life.

Another story since you are so fond of sharing inane and irrelevant information:

The other night I was awakened by a loud and unsettling rant going on in a foreign language. It was immediately obvious to me that the the language was French because I heard common French references like "croissant" and a drawn out "sac...sac....sacrebleau..thbpbpppbbbb...ackkkk!" I went outside to see the source of this French tirade but it was merely my neighbors cat coughing up a hairball.

It is possible my neighbors cat speaks French and according to BYC " we can never be sure" of anything. I think it was just a cat coughing up a hairball, but the bigger question remains if there is any real difference between a pussy speaking french and a cat coughing up a hairball : )

BYC: Childish enough?...can you be "sure". You have fantasies about me in bunkers with flags and firearms is a little odd.

You take no umbrage to people predicting the future and attempting to re-invent an entire language because the truth is not conforming to their irrational fear of an inanimate object which may or may not even exist in the vacinity of the person the prophesies were made about?

Suffer the notion that you are the "target" audience so I make adjustments downward to communicate effectively on your level?

Shall I aim much lower to accommodate you...somewhere on a paramecium level?

Maybe you are angry because I am sarcastic with those who are "first" sarcastic with me? It is not my birthright to be a know it all, sarcastic, baguette du douche...I am not enough of a Euro "Peon" to act like the Euro "Peons?"

Maybe you and Bear (your French grandmother) should put both of your brains together and solve this dilemma or would that action just make you twice as stupid?

We should do away with cars, people and dogs altogether!

and your point? Gun control might not stop ALL the gun murders, but it will stop many.

Just look at the gun murder rate in the USA compared to nations where there are fewer firearms.

quote 2 is something where many people have been asking for stricter security measures.
this said cars main goal is not to kill people: what is the goal of having a military-grade weapon with you?

Thomas Jefferson:

“A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks.” Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318 (Foley, Ed., 1967)

I believe Thomas Jefferson also kept slaves, some of whom slept in a secret cubby above his bed; that made them more accessible for nocturnal activities

The obsession with drawing on our founding fathers, all of whom are dead for two centuries and never lived in an industrialized society, as examples of how we should live now, is sorta dumb, dontcha think?

As to Jefferson, he might not be the best one to advance your case...just saying.

Straightarrow? Hello?

I really did enjoy your posts so far but the last one's have a very grim tone i think.
Did someone in this thread attack you personally (maybe i've missed a post)?
The picture i have in my mind right now is you sitting in you bunker, star spangled banner on the wall behind you, peering through the arrow loops, shooting at everything that moves outside.
Responding like an easy offended child won't do any good in this discussion.

Greetings

Byc
Hey BYC, did you miss the post where he called me all those big words?

I don't think he's very nice, at least his posts don't suggest that, so I can only assume...

I think he may have gotten a bit defensive, i.e. military comments suggest he's ex military and proud or just proud of his/our shared military history.

I'm ex-military and I am far from proud about how "might makes right" has dominated our past and present, but I remain optimistic that we'll change over time...but I'm probably dreaming.

Yup, a wannabe military guy, very funny post, reminds me of my brother who is quite the Rambo.

Do I get extra credit for getting it right?

Well, i think now that we are all aware of what parts are not to be discussed here, this topic has many possible viewpoints, and which to discuss we can go on with this thread in the polite way this forum seems to be, full of fellow unicyclists.

okay, so you have your weapons at home, everybody knows it, the good people and the bad people, but you still do have crimes, dont you?
I don't know anything about news in the states, all i eventually see is some video footage from bank robberies, armed, lots of shooting. We don't have such things here (okay, maybe some, but not as much as you got).

Greetings

Byc

Okay, just read the response to my posts and again a big misunderstanding is underway.

First of, Straightarrow i admire your use of the language, i remember some post in a thread from Terry, if you are not into writing i suggest to start with it.

in every of my posts i didn't intend to make fun of or be sarcastic about anyone. If the way the discussion goes becomes to personal for someone the others can take care of that fact, i want to discuss the topic i don't have to convince someone that my view is right.

Greetings

You are afraid of inanimate objects and don't trust yourself to be in possession of them. Good plan, seriously. Firearms are not a good plan for you Ben, continue with the lithium.

It is hardly significant to report me as naughty AFTER you are such an arrogant asshat. Invest in a mirror, mental midget, Major Hemorrhoid... One finger salute and pants at half mast : )

Jefferson is a primary architect of the Bill Of Rights so quoting him is much better than quoting you. The only time anyone quotes you is usually followed by a "Wow, what a douchebag"...true dish.

You can't even successfully dismantle one sentence any of them wrote "hundreds of years ago".... Oh yeah : (

Regale us further with your ignorance of industrial revolutions.

Remind me again how not having a George Foreman Grill should matter "hundreds of years ago"

Your ESP works in reverse now too, you see the past and the future now?
You are a time travelar too?

Tenche Coxe:

“Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American… The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.” – Tenche Coxe, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.

BYC: Don't worry.

I Saw "The Sound of Music", so how can anyone not like Austria or any of it's people?

Such a thing is not possible.

Austria is the homeland to Gaston Glock, which is a good start to deter the next "Third Reich" in whatever form it takes.

It should be abundantly clear that it is better to prepare than repair your country.

If you partake in the visceration of another nation, you expect celebration?

It may be best to adjust your own lederhosen and shut your "von Trapp" : )

Whatever your career path is, you would make a fine ambassador, and I can think of far more good than bad of anyone here regardless of how much they wiseass and troll.

Yeah Glock, making millions selling his plastic pistol, old, rich, arrogant, also making millions by avoiding all sorts of taxes. I don't know him personally but i have to admit that i don't like him.

Does reciting people from the past does make their thoughts and views right and true?

I think "Voting with once feet" does mean "leaving the country when possible".

I thought this thread is here to discuss the topic of gun ownership and the way it is implemented into united states bill of right, no visceration (or some moderator should change the titel into "america bashing")

I don't own lederhosen, wear jeans most of the time, also i am not jodeling.

Greetings

P.S.: btw. Hitler was austrian too, maybe someone could mention that due to that fact i shouldn't say anything but praise america for saving us.
(WWII, americas role in it, it's role in europe then and now is material for another hundred threads)
