That little one on top is the youngest of 5 (4 brothers) and she is fearless. She just turned 7 and jumped at the opportunity to climb up there.

Hi SalManilla!
Woah!
That is SUPER!

You were in charge of all of that?!
Pretty impressive!

Were those kids just starting on unicycles?
How long did it take to put the show together?

Way to go SalManilla!

No I'm not in charge of the Circus program. I'm the summer camp director and we bring our circus trainers up to camp for a week and teach up there.

That particular act is our beginning and intermediate unicyclist. Half those kids (me included, I'm the one in the George Jetson costume) had never been on a unicycle until last September. We work with the kids doing conditioning (and in this case learning to ride) until December. Then in January we start choreographing the acts. Come May we do our shows. This is our 72nd year performing.

Here's another act that I'm in with my 14yo daughter. I'm the one with the tan hat and rust pants. In this one we have a unicycle that was made from an old wagon wheel, and one of the kids does a back-flip onto the shoulders of our unicycle trainer who is riding a giraffe.

Moving on to Muni

It's been an excited week for me. l received my new Nimbus Muni and started doing some light trail riding at a local park. This morning I went out for the second time on it and was able to clean a couple of sections that gave me a tough time on Wednesday. I even picked some lines took me off trail and over some rougher terrain with some rocks. This is too much fun! Really looking forward to June, as I will be in the San Bernardino Mountains all summer for my job as a camp director. One of the weeks we do a circus camp and I want to give the more advanced unicycle riders a chance to do some trail riding and build some obstacles to give them something new this year. I'll be sure to post pictures when that comes to be.

Yep, it's a 24. It's taking some getting use to since I've been riding a 20 with a smooth tire. A bit slower response than I'm use to. My wife has been very supportive about buying it. She did have some concern, but with all the years I've spent mountain biking and never had a serious injury she knows that I'll be alright.

my latest is a 20" I pieced together with a Nimbus frame and Ebay wheel from a 1964 English uni...I already had pedals and seat..and it sure is fun...I could never do the balance mount, I was always a static mounter...but it came easy with the 20 and once I got it on the smaller one I can do it on the others except the 29 haven't tried it. the bearings are a little worn so I ordered some from a bearing company for $5.. but tell me to shut up...this is more about your new muni and I hope you have alot of fun on it and don't forget to wear protection..

Not a problem! I love to hear about others unis and riding skills. As for protections it's taken care of. Helmet, gloves, and now 661 4x4 shin guards. With a wife and two girls, I need to make sure that I'll be around and functioning for a long time.

My work is keeping me very busy these days. Only one week before we start our summer with kids in the camp.

I spent Memorial Day weekend at camp and had a chance to do a bit of riding. Woke up to snow on Saturday, not much, just a light dusting. Made for a fun ride. Forgot to take a camera with me, so I'll just have to post pictures of some other ride after I get settled at camp.

I was able to get away from my work for a bit and join a group of campers headed out on a mountain bike ride. We did a small 2 mile loop and I dismounted only 4 times. 3 to rest and 1 UPD. The kids had never seen a Muni and were blown away that I could ride with them. I'll have to be sure to plan more rides with them.

Talking My 1 year uni-versary

Well it's now been a year since I started riding unicycles and it's been a thrill. When my kids took up unicycling a couple of years ago I had no idea that there were a bunch of crazy people out there doing things on unicycles other that riding around in circles on a gym floor or playground. Then one day I overheard two of my girls instructors talking about this guy named Kris Holm and I decided to google him, with that a whole new world opened up to me. Being a long time mountain biker I was immediately intrigued. I swore to myself that I was going to learn to ride, and within a year I would be municycling in our local mountains, and I am writing to say I made that goal.

It is a great sport. Fun, challenging, and an incredible workout. Every time I ride I am amazed that I am doing it. I can't help but smile as I ride as I cannot believe that I am balanced on only one wheel and riding off pavement over rocks, roots, sticks, etc. Best of all it has given my girls and I something that we can do together. Something that they were interested in and have been able to share and teach this old dog a some new tricks.
