Well it was tried at Warwick races a few years ago - I can't remember the wheels size probably 36". Although the person was extremely good at freestyle the rollers didn't provide enough friction to maintain balance. The solution IIRC was someone resting their foot on the roller to increase the friction.

Even though I have the rollers and Uni's it isn't something I'm going to try anytime soon.

The only realistic solution would be to get some rollers which have a friction unit attached (to basically make it a combined roller / turbo trainer). Or just go out in the cold

yea, I was wondering how in the world you would do it with rollers (not that it can't be done, but it's probably more trouble than it's worth), and why you would really want to do it. It wouldn't be much more than saddle conditioning and spin practice. I don't think you would get much of a workout from it. . . and the scenery would suck : P

if you wanted inside practice, just idle on one side for 5 minutes, then idle on the other for 5. just keep switching sides. to make it harder you could keep lowering the seat little by little. You could even get some short (70mm) cranks.

I would just suck it up and brave the cold if it's anywhere above 20 or 30 degrees. it makes for a more epic ride anyway : )

Rollers sounds pretty sketchy. I've never heard of anyone doing it before. (JF needs to put that one on his things not to do list)

~2 yrs ago a guy hear posted a vid here of him riding his 24" on his treadmill with it at an incline. I think doing it on more than a 24" would be problematic. So treadmill riding , ride around the room on a small uni always standing while watching TV (do it in sets untill you build up your strength).

If you're just concerned about strength do lots of squats and stuff. Sit on a Swiss ball while working at your desk, constantly doing mini squats. Walking lunges w/ a heavy backpack around the office, etc., while waiting for the printer or something, do pistol squats or core exercises & at home do them w/ weights or on a bosu ball. I read of a guy who was a top age grooper cyclist and did stuff like this since he didn't couldn't ride all the time. After two years, he turned pro and quit his day job.
