What Muni?

Hi,

I'm looking for some munis and cross country unis for around £200 to use off road and on road.

I came across the:

29er nimbus and cross country http://www.unicycle.uk.com/shop/shop...?catalogid=940

and

29er qu-ax cross country
http://www.unicycle.uk.com/shop/shop...catalogid=1044

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these and if so, which one is better.

And generally what is the strength of a 29er cross country uni, such as the aforementioned, compared to a muni like the 26" nimbus muni? http://www.unicycle.uk.com/shop/shop...?catalogid=486

Thanks for all comments.

I have the Qu-Ax 29". It is a good machine for light muni and xc. The cranks that come with it are 170mm, I changed mine for 145mm to get a bit more speed although you probably want to shorter to 125mm. The uni goes pretty well on pavement and handles road cambers well. The tyre on it is good on road and off road but can wheelspin a bit in snow. Overall I think it is a great uni but it is quite heavy (7kg) so if you are a weight weenie the nimbus is a bit lighter.

The Qu-Ax seat sucks; other than that they're relatively similar unicycles.

If you're riding on roads, you definitely want the 29er instead of the 26". The strength will be similar, except for in the cranks; the cranks which come with those 29ers are fairly weak (though very lightweight), while the 26" has the decent Venture cranks. I would see if I could upgrade the 29er to the Venture cranks.

I've got the 29'' Qu-Ax Cross.
Very good Uni. (I've got 6 unis so I'm almost an authority)

I don't see it working on 6' drops, but for light muni, including very steap downhills and dramatic bails, it is fine.
Like someone else said, the seat is not the best, but I don't think it is neccessary to do an immediate upgrade.

Then long cranks are actually very nice - gives a lot of control for such a big wheel.

Thanks for the help so far. Has anyone had any experience with the nimbus or heard about its performance? Particularly how does the strength compare between the nimbus 29 and the Qu-ax 29?

I've got the Nimbus 29 cruiser, which appears to be exactly the unicycle you linked sans the brake mounts and knobby tire. I've done a lot of riding on streets, sidewalks, and bike paths, as well as a small amount of light offroad.

I'm not sure what there is to say about the strength. Any drops I do are under a foot, but I'm a decent-sized guy (~100kg), and the thing has also been dropped and slammed countless times.
