The Freedom Revolution Tour
To the person reading this mail...
I am a unicyclist in South Africa, Donna. Myself, my boyfriend, Alan and our friend, Johnny have been preparing since February this year to ride our unicycles across the interior of South Africa. This all started when Johnny decided he to wanted to do this ride during his varsity break which is 46 days. The 3 of us sent a proposal to Kris Holm for the EOB award, to our delight and surprise, we won. This was the start of our adventure. During the course of the year we formed a non-profit trust, set up a bank account, are applying for a tax number, made a website, nominated a charity and now... now we are live. We launched our website last week Friday (10/09/2010), we are trying to tell people about the tour and that it is being done to put shoes on school children's feet. Coupled with exposing the adventure to the world we are trying to raise the money to firstly, do the tour and secondly, enhance the lives of the youth of South Africa. Shoes in african communities are a symbol of pride and dignity. I am requesting that unicyclist.com posts this on your home page / news / announcements. We would be extremely grateful if you could assist us in our cause. The following is a description of our tour which we you can publish on your front page: *** THREE Cape Town unicyclists are preparing to ride 2,500km off-road from Durban to Cape Town to raise awareness and funds for the Bobs For Good Foundation, Bob Skinstad's campaign to provide disadvantaged children with school shoes. Alan Read, Donna Kisogloo and Johnny Cronje, who form the CounterBalance Trust, will ride their KH 29er's, which they received through the Evolution of Balance Award 2010. They will ride from Umhlanga Lighthouse, just north of Durban, starting on November 26 and finishing at Mouille Point Lighthouse on January 8, 2011. The ride, named The Freedom Revolution Tour, will largely follow the route of the already established Freedom Challenge Trail, used by mountain bikers to contest the Freedom Challenge event in July each year. The Freedom Challenge Trail is supported by the Wilderness Foundation and enables cyclists to cross deeply rural South Africa with a minimum impact on the environment. The CounterBalance Team, all experienced off-road unicyclists, are hard in training to tackle the 46-day marathon which will take them up to the Drakensberg escarpment, around the Maluti mountain range, through the Eastern Cape hinterland, across the Karoo and down to Paarl before finishing in Cape Town. "This is going be a crazy, wild adventure for us and a great opportunity to explore isolated parts of our beautiful country, we are proud to be supporting the Bobs For Good Foundation which is doing so much to uplift the lives of under-privileged schoolchidren." For further information, please go to www.counterbalance.co.za *** Please visit our website. We are eager to hear from you regarding our request. Kind Regards Donna Kisogloo donna@counterbalance.co.za |
