DO NOT READ

I do graphics at university (a large part of it is advertising) so I wrote this as an experiment to see how many people would click it.

This isn't a very controlled experiment because it is perfectly easy to hover over the thread title and see the first little bit of what is written in the thread. I do this to most threads I click on, I did it to this one.

I looked at it but didn't read it. Hope that didn't screw up your experiment.

I found your text treatment to be graphically boring, but with a decent amount of negative space for the message.

I hovered but then decided to click to see what the responses were. It is sort of a pointless experiment unless you can set up some sort of control to compare it to.

very true

but If I set up a thread saying READ THIS then that would be outright lying and annoy everyone because there would be nothing of any importance.

at least with this thread there is a warning that it's going to be pointless, even if there is reverse psychology.

I may plan this experiment a bit better and try it again in a few months.

I thought this would be a thread about discouraging the use of print media.

Thanks for your input, Steve. I followed the instructions and refrained from clicking. Then I saw that you replied and I thought, "now there's an interesting fellow," so I clicked. I did NOT, however, read the initial post because it explicitly said not to. All this suspense is getting to me, though -- I think I'm going to go have a cheeseburger.
