| Unicon XV workshops! |
|
Nov 05, 2009 - 2:32 AM - by GizmoDuck
|
We're just putting together a list of workshops for Unicon. This is the 'CON' or convention side of Unicon. It's a way to share skills, interests or just have fun with other unicyclists.
Workshops can be run by anyone, and it doesn't have to be Unicycling related. For instance, you may want to organise a trip to one of the local attractions and get a few unicyclists along. So the workshop would basically involve having a meeting place/time and taking responsibility for knowing where to go, how much it costs, maps to get there etc.
Or you might want to show off some skills that are non-unicycling related. For instance, Nathan and Beau Hoover are organising a Disc Golf workshop, and Jamey is doing a Beer Pong workshop.
Let us know if you are interested, and if so, fill in the questionaire on the Unicon website:
http://www.uniconxv.co.nz/programme/workshops/
Cheers,
Ken Looi

| Unicon XV Video Competition |
|
Nov 04, 2009 - 12:47 AM - by GizmoDuck
|
Get your best unicycle video clips and send it in to us for the Unicon Video Competition! We will be showing Unicycle Videos on the 4th January at the TSB Arena
More information on the Unicon Website:
General Rules
- Maximum of 10 videos that make it past the board.
- Length: maximum of 6 minutes
- To compete, one member of the team which produced the
video must participate at UNICON XV. The person submitting
the video must be at Unicon XV (For example, 3 people created the video – only 2 attend.
One of the 2 must be at Unicon and the name of the person responsible for the video).
- The video should be new material and should not be released until after Unicon XV.
- It must be about unicycling, not a commercial video.
- Offensive movies will not be shown.
- The candidates guarantee free rights (image) for public projection.
- There will be a jury doing the rating, NOT the public.
Judging Criteria – for actual comp
- Popular vote
Judging Criteria – for board selecting the 10 or fewer vids
- No offensive movies
- Original
- Either really good unicycling or really good theme/plot. Does NOT have to be both, but bonus
if both good unicycling and good theme/plot.
- Entertaining
Because it is necessary to restrict the number of movies, a jury will preselect 10 videos among the
candidates. The jury will make the final decision with the selection of the 10 videos to be shown at
Unicon XV. The candidates will have to upload their video with smaller resolution on a website (we
will give you the website address then) but only the jury will be able to watch the videos. For Unicon,
the selected candidates will have to come with a CD or a DVD of their movie in high resolution and
give it to the organisers before the competition. The showing sequence will be a random draw.

| UNICON XV Update: Only 2 months to go! |
|
Nov 04, 2009 - 12:29 AM - by GizmoDuck
|
Dear Unicyclist,
Greetings from the Aotearoa, Land of the Long White Cloud!
We’re just two months away from Unicon! You’ll hear from us more often now as we bring you up-to-date with the biggest event on the unicycling calendar, and the first Unicon ever held in the Southern Hemisphere.
Registration update
We have 602 registered unicyclists from 21 countries. Our biggest teams are from Germany and Denmark with 103 and 81 registrations respectively. Coming close behind is Japan, with 75 participants.
Registration cut-offs
The next registration payment cut-off is 30 November 2009. The registration price is currently NZ$350, but increases to NZ$500 on 1 Dec 2009. Pay for your registration early to get the lower entry price. You can register and edit your entry until 1 Dec 2009 (whether or not you have paid).
Other registration cut-offs
The deadline for registration for the following events is 14 November at 11:59p New Zealand Time:
· Individual Freestyle, Pairs Freestyle, Group Freestyle, Standard Skill, Street, and Flatland;
· Basketball and Hockey teams;
· Points Racing (100m, 400m, 800m, 50m one-foot, 10m.30m Wheel Walk, Obstacle Course) and Relay Race.
For Basketball and Hockey, to officially register, the team captain needs to send UniconXV an email with the team name and all players.
The other events do not have a deadline but you will assist in our planning if you are signed up for the events where you want to compete.
Opening Ceremony
The parade of unicyclists will take place along the scenic waterfront with panoramic views across the Wellington Harbour. As you enter the Civic Square, you will be greeted with a Powhiri (traditional Maori welcome). Don’t forget to wear your team t-shirts for the opening ceremony.
Competition Updates
Competition venue photos are now up on the Unicon website. Most of the events will be held in the heart of the city. Muni and marathon competitors can also find photos showing part of the course for their race.
Similarly, we have put up course info sheet for 10 km race and marathon on the website. You will be able to check out the course map, route description, and for marathon, the elevation profile of course.
Video Competition
Have you got an awesome, new, original unicycling video to share? Showcase your other talent and take part in the Unicycling Video Competition!
Unicon Workshops
Have a workshop idea? Want to organise an informal rides or day trips? Any wacky unicycling games you like to share other unicyclists? If you would like to host one, or if there’s any particular type of workshop that you really like to take part in, email us at unicon15@gmail.com and we’ll take it from there.
See you in Windy Welly in two months.

Unicycle Marathon at the 2 nd of May 2010 in Duesseldorf/Germany |
|
Oct 26, 2009 - 10:35 PM - by Der Düsseldorfer
|
Information about:
Unicycle Marathon at the 2 nd of May 2010 in Duesseldorf/Germany
Within the city Marathon event „METRO Group Marathon Duesseldorf“ our local Unicycle Club „RMSV Frisch auf Duesseldorf e. V.“ is already for the sixth time the organizer of the official separate unicycle competition which is the only event of this kind all over Europe. More than 70 unicyclists from Germany and abroad had registered in 2009. Here you have the unique opportunity to ride in front of more than 300,000 excited spectators without caring about traffic lights and rules right across the city center and some suburbs of Duesseldorf. For the unicyclists with german passports this competion is the sixth official national championship.
Unicyclists of minimum 16 years (relevant = year of birth = 1994) which are able to ride the 42.195 km Marathon distance on a unicycle within maximum 4.30 hours have to register twice, i. e under
www.metrogroup-marathon.de and parallel under www.rmsv-duesseldorf.de
You can participate in one of the two different disciplines:
Standard with technical limitations as max. 28”x 1,75” tyre, crank arms of min. 114mm and 1:1 gear
Unlimited without any major technical limitations.
Within the Standard there will be three different age groups for men and only one for women. There is one Unlimited competition for men and one for women. Moreover there will be special prices for undercutting the existing track records.
It is mandatory to wear a helmet and gloves, recommended are protectors for knees and elbows too.
Registration fee varies between 39 and 70 EUR depending on the time of registration.
Registration have to be made before the 18 th of April 2010.
As this event is primarily an event for runners and we are on the same track with them the unicyclist who need more than 2:20 hours will have to give priority to the top runners !
Probably we will offer accomodation in our gym at a price of 10 EUR/person.
In any case of misunderstanding the detailled information in german language is valid. So please ask beforehand if there are any doubts.
